Context
A community sports venue for basketball and other court games that has to stay usable in rain and in strong sun.
Challenge
The roof had to cover the whole court with no internal columns, stay bright without lights by day, and not trap heat.
Approach
A long span steel frame with a ridge skylight brings in daylight, while the sides stay open with netting and planting for cross ventilation. Seating sits under the eaves as a transition zone.
Scope
Architectural design, long span steel structure concept, landscape design, and 3D visualisation.
Result
A court that is comfortable all day and in every season, with low running costs for lighting and cooling.
